5 boats left Green Turtle Cay on Friday the 25^th April with destination Allens Pensacole Cay. It was the Vessel “Mermaid” with Joanne and David, “Shadowfax” with Pam and Don, “Ragtime” with Gail and Ted, “Fundy Passage” with Phil and “Heimu” with me. From there we had to go to Great Sale Cay where we spend the last night in the Bahamas. After a Bahamian farewell party we started the next morning at 6:30 to cross the Banks towards the Gulf Stream. The Bahamas said goodbye to us by displaying the most incredible watercolors along with the playful Dolphins. The Total distance was about 158 mls to Cape Canaveral. We had light wind out of SE and could sail in the beginning, later we had to motor sail. At around 5 pm we left the Banks and started the crossing. The wind shifted to S/SW. When we reached the Golf Stream current the speed went up to max 10 knts and we where kind of surfing down 6 foot waves. Because of the confused waves I decided to hand steer the boat, instead of using the auto pilot. Monday morning at 8am we reached Cape Canaveral. After we went to the Border Control and Immigration we left for Titusville where we got a slip in the municipal marina. A good nights sleep, after being awake for nearly 40 hours, a shower and a good meal was all I could think of. Today, the last Day of April, we left Titusville in the morning and arrived at Daytona in the afternoon using the ICW. Tomorrow we will go to St. Augustine and on the weekend we will stay in Fernandina Beach.

5 Yachten haben Green Turtle Cay am Donnerstag den 24. April mit Ziel Allens Pensacola Cay verlassen. Es waren die Schiffe „Mermaid“ mit Joanne und David, „Shadowfax“ mit Pam and Don, „Ragtime“ mit Gail und Ted, „Fundy Pasage“ with Phil and „Heimu“ mit mir. Von dort mussten wir dann zu einer unbewohnten Insel Gruppe „Great Sail Cay“ wo wir unsere letzte Nacht in den Bahamas verbrachten. Nach einer Bahamian Abschiedsparty starteten wir am naechsten Morgen um 6:30 und segelten ueber die „Little Bahama Banks“ zum Golfstrom. Die Bahams sagten Aufwiedersehen zu uns mit unwahrscheinlichen Wasserfarben und dem Spiel der Dolphine am Boots Bug. Die Entfernung bis Cape Canaveral war 158 Meilen. Wie hatten leichten Wind aus SE und konnten am Anfang gut segeln – der Climabalance Spinacker brachte Heimu in die erste Position. Spaeter musste der Motor dazu genommen werden da der Wind nachliess, auf S/SW drehte und wir zu langsam wurden. Um 5 Uhr Nachmittags haben wir dann die Banks verlassen und sind in den Atlantic , Richtung Golfstrom gefahren. Im Golfstrom erreichten wir bis zu 10 knoten speed und surften 6 fuss hohe Wellen runter. Da die Wellen ziemlich confuse waren, entschied ich keinen Autopiloten zu benutzen und mit der Hand zu steuern. Montag morgen um 8 Uhr waren wir dann in Cap Canaveral. Nach den Zoll Formalitaeten ging es dann noch drei Stunden weiter bis Titusville wo wir einen Stegplatz fuer zwei Tage mieteten. Nach dem ich nun ueber 40 Stunden auf den Beinen war konnte ich nur noch an eine Dusche, was Essen und an Schlafen denken. Heute am letzten April Tag sind wir nach Daytona gefahren von wo aus es dann morgen weiter nachSt. Augustine geht und am Wochenende nach Fernandina Beach.
